The Legacy of Tulloch Wines: Celebrating 130 Years

Celebrating the old, embracing the new!

In 2025, we raise a glass to 130 years of Tulloch Wines. Our story began in 1895, when John Younie (J.Y) Tulloch owned the Braxton General Store and accepted an unusual settlement for a debt- a 43-acre property in nearby Pokolbin. Tulloch took an immediate liking to the property and the five acres of neglected Shiraz wines it contained and undertook his first foray into viticulture and winemaking.

While some may call it luck, we believe our journey is defined by more than chance. It's a story woven with a willingness to seize opportunities, hard work, unwavering commitment to quality, adaptability, and a deep passion for what we do and where we do it.

The path hasn't always been easy. Like any agriculture endeavour, we've faced our share of challenges, from the early death of second-generation Hector Tulloch and corporate takeovers to shifting consumer preferences and the ever-unpredictable weather. Through it all, we've not only preserved but thrived, reaching this remarkable 130-year milestone with immense pride.

This anniversary is particularly special, coming on the heels of a year filled with significant recognition for some of our key leaders in 2024:

- Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) awarded to 3rd generation John Younie (Jay) Tulloch.

- The Graham Gregory Award, the NSW wine industry's highest accolade recognising outstanding contributions, for 4th generation and current CEO, Christina Tuloch

- Outstanding Contribution of an Individual Award presented to General Manager, Brad Russ, at the Hunter Valley Legends Awards.

These achievements highlight the leadership and dedication of the Tulloch team, not just within our brand but across the broader Australian wine landscape. However, we firmly believe that our success is a collective effort. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:

- Our dedicated staff, both in the Cellar Door and behind the scenes, who pour their passion into every aspect of the Tulloch experience

- Loyal Wine Club members, some have been members for decades, and others are just beginning their wine journey with us

- The Hunter Valley community, there are names that have been there with us since the beginning and many more that have chosen the valley along the way

- Valued growers, who meticulously nurture and cultivate their grapes season after season, braving challenging climates and economic landscapes

- Talented winemaking team, who work tirelessly and consistently to craft magic in every bottle

- Valued customers, who choose Tulloch Wines in bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants, and bottle shops, amidst an increasingly diverse and competitive market of wine and other beverages

We sincerely appreciate each and every one of you. We recognise that our 130-year journey would not have been possible without your unwavering support. Thank you for being part of the Tulloch Wines Family.

When we talked about how we as a brand would like to celebrate this milestone, instead of one exclusive event, we decided to create something inclusive: a year-long celebration! Think of it as a rolling party, to be celebrated at every dinner and event. There's also a few exciting changes on the horizon ;-)

Stay tuned, and let's celebrate together!
